Happy 95th

I never thought when Pastor Dowd asked me to write these articles that they would catch on. At first I was writing for just the Pender Post, but now I also do the topsail Voice, the Star News Neighborhoods and the church’s website. Good grief - I’m nearly syndicated! As a result, Blake’s Chapel is becoming well know, or shall I say infamous, that I am awaiting for invitations to write for the Las Vegas Roller, the Alamogordo Blast and the Whynot Inquisitor! I’ll write for anyone if it helps spread the Gospel.

In case you haven’t noticed, I enjoy writing. It gives me immense pleasure knowing that people actually read these articles and get a good laugh at the same time. I’m one of the parts, the oddest parts, of the body of Christ. 1Cor. 12: 12 - 31 describes all the members of the church as members of the body of Christ. Each has a function and is vital to the proper operation of the body as a whole. Every member is also blessed with a spiritual gift (1Cor. 12: 1 - 11) so that the proper person with the proper gift can accomplish his/her job to the glory of God.

Wow! Me blessed with a spiritual gift! I don’t know if that blows your mind, but it does mine. In His infinite wisdom, God chose me to be a small part of His plan for bringing people to the saving grace of the Gospel. Believe me, there are times when I feel I am stretching the envelop with some of my flippant comments, but can you imagine God without a sense of humor? All I have to do is look in the mirror and I know He’s having a good laugh, I hope. Either He is laughing a lot, or He has an incredible amount of patience with me. Paul refers to God as “…the God of patience…” (Rom. 15: 5), so I feel safe on that account.

In fact, Blake’s Chapel Advent Christian Church is filled with people who are ready and willing to do their part in God’s plan for His church. Some jobs are high profile, while others you may not even be aware of week to week. With God at the helm, the church works together

perfectly synchronized to accomplish God’s will in God’s time. Each year as we grow, it is not because of me, or anyone else, but because God had truly blessed this congregation.

As we enter our 95th year again we invite you to come worship with us. We’re here every Wednesday and Sunday (and it looks like we’ll be having various Bible studies on Tuesdays - more about that later). Some of us may be a little strange (color me first), but God has put this body together, so He knows what He’s doing! Join us in our next 95 years!
